Tulum

As much time as I spent here, I lived here, in a way, and did not spend a lot of time taking pictures, although I have a section for the ruins and my Chichen Itza tour. Pleasant little Tulum is primarily a beach, dive, and tours staging area. A totally laid-back little place and vastly more relaxing than high volume Cancun.

Avenida Tulum, the main drag

That's how some people spent their time in Tulum. Not a bad way to go.

The uncrowded Tulum beach, here in front of La Vita Bella, a beach resort, where you can hang out anytime, just buy a beverage
Not far from there, one of the most idyllic beaches anywhere, IMO.

Jaqueline, my master diver and instructor

I spent a full day in the Mot-Mot Dive shop, doing this and a second day taking tests,
Then it was off to this cenote, to practice everything I learned and go for a nice long dive afterward
Finally, on the following day, after a review in the cenote, we went out on this small boat, run by the local beach-front dive shop, to finish with the reef dive. The reef is way out, where you can see the line of breakers. It is the second longest reef in the world and goes from north of here all the way to the Quays in Belize and on to Honduras.

The typical smiling politician (2nd from left), promising everything, and once in place, delivering little,
working the skeptical crowds with the usual distractions.

The colorful tops of the Mayan women

And suddenly, and sadly, it's time to pack up and depart, while others fall in love with the place and stay - sometimes for weeks, sometimes for months and even years..
